Summer update

I have kept working with clients throughout the Corona period. I’ve also been able to network and develop certain skills and improve my knowledge of technical areas at online events.

At the end of April I attended training sessions for post-editing of machine translations, provided by the language service provider group of the Vienna Economic Chambers.

I attended my first translation conference remotely: BP 2020. About four hundred translators joined the online conference in May. There were plenty of insightful talks. What really made the event stand out was the focus on networking with online rooms to virtually meet other translators. I was thrilled to join a dedicated session for technical translators. I can thoroughly recommend this event to other translators.

In July, I attended one of my first in-person events since the relaxation of restrictions and attended Junge Wirtschaft Wien’s monthly event (the under-40s group of the Vienna Economic Chambers). It was great to meet up with other business owners in person after so long.

I attended an online “tech talk” webinar from the Institution of Mechanical Engineers featuring Hitachi Rail. The two talks dealt with rail industry topics including the design of piping systems and saloon interior design.

One of the Hitachi trains mentioned in the Tech Talk. “Azuma 800111” by Aerialpete is licensed under CC BY-SA 2.0.

I also joined the Northern groups of the ITI for an online pub quiz as part of the North East’s group quiz team.

I’m now getting ready for a big change in my personal life with a move my business back to the UK at the end of August. Wish me luck!
